POETRY

A Catalogue of Thoughts

In this post-post-post world

Where feelings have been eradicated

Through senseless repetition

Therapeutic(ally) adding prefix and suffix

To rid ourselves of that unwanted death.

When words become thoughts

Not feelings

Sonnets have no use

To those of us who bought

Our way in this world. Now look!

We are left with only experimental poetry

And a universal sanity to lose.

We all regress

To that restless monologue

Forced to write about the ??? and !!!

Like pouring too much milk in your tea

Or committing a few war crimes- humans are petty.

And whateverthefuck else is going on in the head of the quasi-dead.

For the world is entirely phenomenal

To those of us with absent fathers

Who denied us the right to be read

Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason before bed.

And just like that

Poetry and truth become synonymous:

Published oracles to be forgotten on the tube.

So my poem to you

Is that I have left the oven on 180 fan;

My gift to the Anthropocene

After all, there’s nothing true in altruism

And kindness isn’t kindness if it hasn’t been seen.
