POETRY

Two Sides of a Storm

You are a flower

You are a dark flower

Under moonlight made

Wilting at my touch

I pick petals from your hair

I pluck dried leaves from your skeleton

And hold you close

I feel your bones

The trickle becomes a surge

The waves never cease

Hate cascades down your cheeks

They crash and drag you down

I look over your shoulder to the mirror

Over your shoulder stares my reflection

Ebony eyes glare, devoid of hope

Ivory eyes blink, firmly optimistic

They are not my eyes

They are not my eyes

I let the anguish wash over me

Screams echo off my skin

I see thoughts laced with madness

I see your heart, bulging out

I see them and I let them go

And feel your hair turning to ash

My skin stained in vengeful ink

My love drained of colour

I will be the constant

You crumble in my embrace

Sturdy against the storm

Crushed in a violent sea

The castle unfaltering against the cavalry

A sinking ship that’s destined to drown

I can’t stop you from falling

I’m sorry I couldn’t save you

But I can gather the pieces

Now we both shatter
