a literary journal

Applications 2023-2024

The ENIGMA Journal is looking for self-motivated individuals with initiative, excellent proofreading and copyediting skills and strong organisational capabilities.

For editors, your primary responsibility will be to work alongside the Assistant Editors and Journal Director to edit submissions for the online journal, with the possibility of focusing on the printed journal in summer.

This four hour (maximum but often less) a week position includes:

·         Editing submissions for non-fiction/fiction/poetry

·         Editing and managing page structures in Squarespace.

·         Writing and publishing your own creative content.

·         Being a part of a team of creative-minded people.

·         Eventually publishing a printed journal in 2023.

No fancy editorial experience is needed, just an eye for detail!

Tips for application:

·         Show off your strong communication skills. The Journal Director and Assistant Editors will be relying on you to communicate with them. For the same reason, show off your strong time-management skills.

·         Make sure there aren’t any grammar mistakes!

·         If you want to try editing poetry, for example, but you’ve only edited fiction that’s fine! Please remember, as well, that if one category is getting more submissions than others, then you will be asked to edit other categories.

Assistant Editors are responsible for ensuring the submissions edited and uploaded by the Fiction/Poetry and Non-Fiction Editors follow the style guidelines. They may also be asked to schedule posts for publication or source images and complete SEO. Most importantly, if one category has more submissions than others, they will be asked to edit different categories.

*If you would like to apply for more than one position you may do so under “Job Title.” You may only apply for a maximum of two positions.

Application Period Opens: 18/09/2023

Application Period Closes: 09/10/2023

Successful applicants to be announced: Early October 2023 onwards.
